On this day the Dutch Texelaar Pedigreebook (NTS) the Texel-North Holland Pedigreebook (TSNH) and the Pedigreebook Blue Texel sheep (SBT) organizes a national show for Texel sheep. The top of the Dutch Texel sheep breeders will be present with about 500 sheep. Besides this, there will be standholders with a diversity of products specifically for sheepfarming. The show will take place in The ‘Oranjehal’, Bentweideweg 25 in Wenum Wiesel (Apeldoorn). Start is at 10.00 and admission is free.
Besides a lot of Texel breeders from the Netherlands there will also be foreign visitors from different European countries. There is more and more international interest in Dutch Texel sheep. It’s popularity is growing fast, worldwide. Even in a sheep nation as the United Kingdom the Texel breed is already one of the most popular breeds.
Functional sheep
In the Netherlands there is a development in breeding towards a more fertile, bigger and stronger sheep, that still keeps here outstanding muscles and typical racial features. Modern Dutch Texel sheep give birth to approximately 2 lambs per ewe.
